A Time for Rest
"Then Jesus said, 'Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
If I’m being honest, the past few weeks have been very difficult for me. They’ve been packed with events weekend after weekend. It’s so rewarding and great to be involved, however, it’s stressful. The more you’re involved, the more you find yourself spending hours at the school and not at home. With the recent events that have unfolded in the past few weeks, I found myself getting more and more tired. I just needed a break. I wasn’t being my same high energy self. I felt like the things I was doing and giving out we’re empty because I was empty and hadn’t had time to fill myself up. I felt terrible about this because I hold myself to giving everyone the best and giving everything I do the best. But to be frank, you simply cannot do this, if you don’t first give yourself the best.
It’s a blessing to have 3 weeks off school. Yesterday I spent hours out in nature just observing waves crashing, birds chirping, and the laughter of friends. We often take being outside for granted. At school, we’re mostly in a building all day but now we all have the opportunity to go outside. Soak in the sun. Breath in the fresh air. Just relax and take that FAT nap that we all need (nap times have been my favorite). My challenge for you today, is to go outside and observe all the things that you can’t usually. Remember that you cannot give out, what you at first don’t receive.
