World Cancer Day: February 4, 2022
World Cancer Day is a day to show that everyone has the ability to make a difference in this world, whether it may be big or small, it is still a difference. World Cancer Day is a campaign to bring awareness to ways we can have a cancer-free world!
“World Cancer Day is more than a day on the calendar. That’s why our campaign is built to inspire change and mobilise action long after the day itself. A multi-year campaign means more exposure and engagement, more opportunities to build global awareness and ultimately more impact. ” (worldcancerday.org).
This year is all about assessing the situation and figuring out how to solve problems, which include being turned down for health care
“Inequity in cancer care can cost lives” (worldcancerday.org), and this gap can affect everyone. This year is a year to reduce stigma about cancer.
The next two years are dedicated to taking action (2023) to abolish these problems and to bring a stronger awareness of what is going on in the cancer community (2024).
2023 is a time to unite our voices to finally get people to take action against all of this stigma and other problems that are not getting addressed.
2024 is a time to finally “challenge those in power” (worldcancerday.org). Doing this will show the leader that they need to prioritize cancer and not just push it off to the side.
If you can spare the time, please go check out worldcancerday.org they have extremely detailed plans and they go into more detail about World Cancer Day. They offer information on what cancer really is, how it can be dealt with, action plans and so much more!
